Gods Power To Protect
Gods Power to Protect
God Saves His People!
1. After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your shield, your abundant compensation, and your reward shall be exceedingly great.
- Genesis 15:1
Abram had not yet become Abraham, but he was still a man of faith. Without vision God says that His People will perish. He has given us all a vision of His Glory through His Holy Word and what we choose to do with it will determine the outcome of our lives. Abram believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of a sound mind in Christ Jesus. As part of our Spiritual Armor, He has given us the Shield of Saving Faith, upon which we can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. Jesus promised us the Abundant Life and our reward is not only great, but exceedingly so. He is able to do above and beyond all that we could ask or think. God will go before you in all things, keep you in His perfect and acceptable will for your Life and His Goodness and Mercy will follow you all the days of your Life. Like Job, He will put a hedge of protection around you and no one will ever be able to snatch you out of His hands. By Faith, keep leaning on the everlasting arms.
2. Then I said to you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.
The Lord your God Who goes before you, He will fight for you just as He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,
And in the wilderness, where you have seen how the Lord your God bore you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.
- Deuteronomy 1:29-31
The eternal God is your refuge and dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He drove the enemy before you and thrust them out, saying, Destroy!
And Israel dwells in safety, the fountain of Jacob alone in a land of grain and new wine; yes, His heavens drop dew.
Happy are you, O Israel, and blessing is yours! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help, the sword that exalts you! Your enemies shall come fawning and cringing, and submit feigned obedience to you, and you shall march on their high places.
- Deuternomy 33:27-29
The battles are the Lord's and His victories are ours. He continues to promise to go before us in all things. He has taken us this far and is going to bring us through. O how happy we ought to be, because the blessings of God are ours! We are saved by the Lord and He is the Author and Finisher of our Faith.
3. He said, The Lord is my rock [of escape from Saul] and my fortress [in the wilderness] and my deliverer; [1 Sam. 23:25, 28, 14.]
My God, my rock; in Him will I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, and my refuge, my savior; You save me from violence. [Gen. 15:1.]
I call on the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
- 2 Samuel 22:2-4
DAVID spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: For the waves of death enveloped him, the torrents of destruction made him afraid; The cords of Sheol were entangling him; he encountered the snares of death. It wasn't that David wasn't afraid, but his confidence was in the Name of the Lord. He went through the fire and through the flood, but he came forth as gold tried in the fire. Jesus is our escape in the wilderness and the strength of our salvation. Call on Him, He is Worthy to be praised and He'll save you from your enemies.
4. But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me out of His holy hill. Selah [pause, and calmy think of that]!
I lay down and slept; I wakened again, for the Lord sustains me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, who have set themselves against me round about.
Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God; for You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
- Psalm 3:3-7
In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.
- Psalm 4:8
My soul finds rest in God alone. Who do you trust? Jesus is our Peace and is the Way to enter into God's rest. Though the enemy roams around like a lion looking for whom he can devour, God has overcome Him by the Blood of the Lamb. He has given us the Shield of Faith and as we humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, He will lift us up. Call on Him and He will hear and answer you. He Who watches over you will neither slumber nor sleep. Fear not for He is with you always, even unto the end of the age.
5. The Lord also will be a refuge and a high tower for the oppressed, a refuge and a stronghold in times of trouble [high cost, destitution and desperation].
- Psalm 9:9
For You deliver an afflicted and humble people, but will bring down haughty looks.
For You cause my lamp to be lighted and shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.
For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect! The Word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him.
For who is God except the Lord? Or who is a rock save our God,
The God who girds me with strength, and makes my way perfect?
He makes my feet like hinds' feet [able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble]; He sets me securely upon my high places.
He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms bend a bow of bronze.
You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand has held me up; Your gentleness and condescension have made me great.
You have given plenty of room for my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.
- Psalm 18:27-36
The Lord is our refuge and strength! He is our Deliverer and the Light that shines in the darkness! God is perfect, therefore His Word is perfect! By Faith we put our trust in Him, because He is the Rock of our Salvation! Take your stand in Him and you will be secure. Humble yourself and He will set you upon the high places. He has given you everything you need to live your Life unto Him and like Joshua, where ever you put your foot, you will prosper. There are no boundaries with God when you believe in His promises and Love.
6. A Psalm of David.
THE Lord is my shepherd [to feed, guide and shield me]; I shall not lack.
He makes me lie down in (fresh, tender) green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. [Rev. 7:17.]
He refreshes and restores my life - my self; He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him - not for my earning it, but] for His name's sake.
Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil; for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.
Surely or only goodness, mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life; and through the length of days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.
- Psalm 23:1-6
THE Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the refuge and stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, (even then) in this will I be confident.
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after, inquire for and [insistently] require, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord, and to meditate, consider and inquire in His temple. (Pss. 65:4; 18:6; 16:11; Luke 2:37.]
For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.
- Psalm 27:1-5
Both of these Psalms show us why God said that David was a man after His own heart. His desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord forever and worship the Lord. He believed that God was His protection and that goodness and mercy would follow him all the days of his life. Jesus is the Same Yesterday, Today and Forever. Because of Him we can enter into the presence of the Lord by the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. Gaze upon the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness of His face. Seek God always and bring Glory to His Name.
7. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him - who revere and worhip Him with awe; and each of them He delivers. [Pss. 145:20; 18:1.]
- Psalm 34:6, 7
The steps of a [good] man are directed and established of the Lord, when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step].
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him.
- Psalm 37:23, 24
With our hand in His, who do we have to fear? God is the director in this theatre of life. He is in complete control and even though we fall, we shall not be utterly cast down. Do you revere and worship God with awe? Jesus encamps around us and when we cry to Him, He delivers us from all of our fears. Fear not little ones for I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.
8. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge [our fortress and high tower]. Selah [pause, and think calmly of that]!
Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has wrought desolations and wonders in earth.
He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow into pieces and snaps the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.
Let be and be still, and know - recognize and understand - that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge [our high tower and stronghold]. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
- Psalm 46:7-11
Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved - made to slip, fall or fail. [1 Pet. 5:7.]
- Psalm 55:22
Do you trust, lean on and confidently rely on God? O CLAP your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph and songs of joy! God is with us; the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is our refuge [our fortress, high tower and stronghold]. Jesus is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever. What He has done for others He will do for you. He is our Peace, our Deliverer and our shield. Be still, and know - recognize and understand - that He is God. Through your Life allow Him to be exalted among the nations and in the earth!

9. What time I am afraid, I will have confidence and put my trust and reliance on You.
By [the help of] God I will praise His Word; on God I lean, rely and confidently put my trust; I will not fear; what can man who is flesh do to me?
- Psalm 56:3, 4
Behold our shield [the king as Your agent], O God, and look upon the face of Your anointed!
For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I had rather be a doorkeeper and stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows [present] grace and favor and [future] glory - honor, splendor and heavenly bliss! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- Psalm 84:9-11
O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! O Lord of hosts, blessed - happy, fortunate [to be envied] - is the man who trusts in You, (leaning and believing on You, committing all and confidently looking to You, and that without fear or misgiving)! As an usher at the Church of the Nazarene in New Milford, N.J. in the early eighties, this psalm truely spoke to my heart. Even to this day, I would rather be a doorkeeper in His fold and a servant of the Most High God than to do anything else in this world. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His Wonderful face and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the Light of His Glory and Grace!
10. PSALM 91
FOOTNOTES:
The rich promises of this whole chapter are dependent upon one's meeting exactly the conditions of these first two verses. [Exod. 15:26.]
Out of my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me, and set me free and in a large place.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? [Heb. 13:6.]
The Lord is on my side and takes my part, He is among those who help me; therefore shall I see my desire upon those who hate me.
It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
All nations [the surrounding tribes] compassed me about, but in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!
They compassed me about, yes, they surrounded me on every side; but in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!
They swarmed about me like bees; they blaze up and are extinguished like a fire of thorns; in the name of the Lord I will cut them off! [Deut. 1:44.]
You [my adversary] thrust sorely at me that I might fall, but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation.
The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents and private dwellings of the [uncompromisingly] righteous; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly and achieves strength!
The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly and achieves strength!
- Psalm 118:5-16
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I (confidently) trust! If God be for us then who can be agaist us? Having Faith in Jesus and trusting in Him gives us confidence and strength to face whatever comes our way. Knowing that He is there for us gives inner Peace and Comfort in all circumstances. He is our Salvation, our Strength and our Song! Having a personal knowledge of God's mercy, love and kindness; trust and rely on Him, knowing He will never forsake you, no, never. When we call upon Him, He will answer us; He will be with us in trouble, He will deliver us and honor us. With long life will He satisfy us, and show us His Salvation. Read all of Psalm 91 and meditate on it. God will be there to meet all of your needs and to help you in all of your circumstances. He is Faithful and Jesus never fails!
11. My help comes from the Lord, Who made Heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip or to be moved; He Who keeps you will not slumber. [1 Sam. 2:9; Prov. 3:23, 26; Ps. 127:1; Isa. 27:3.]
Behold, He Who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand [the side not carrying a shield]. [Isa. 25:4.]
The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. [Ps. 91:5; Isa. 49:10; Rev. 7:16.]
The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and for evermore. [Deut. 28:6; Prov. 2:8; 3:6.]
- Psalm 121:2-8
He will fulfill the desire of those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, He also will hear their cry, and will save them.
The Lord preserves all those who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.
- Psalm 145:19, 20
I WILL lift up my eyes to the Lord. That is where my help comes from. Psalm 145 is a Psalm of praise that was written by King David. He says, "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless - affectionately and gratefully praise - His holy name for ever and ever." Look over these Scripture verses carefully and notice that every time you see the word will, the Word of God is stating how willing God is. Not only is He willing, but He is able to fulfill His Word. All of God's promises are yea and amen in Christ Jesus. He is our help, our keeper, our shield, our preserver and the fulfiller of all our desires. I WILL extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name for ever and ever - with grateful, affectionate praise.
12. But whoso hearken to me [Wisdom], shall dwell securely and in confident trust, and shall be quiet without fear or dread of evil.
- Proverbs 1:33
My son, let them not escape from your sight, but keep sound wisdom and discretion,
And they will be life to your inner self, and a gracious ornament to your neck [your outer self].
Then you will walk on your way securely and in confident trust, and you shall not dash your foot or stumble. [Prov. 10:9; Ps. 91:11, 12.]
When you lie down you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down and your sleep shall be sweet.
Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the storm blast or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes [for you will be guiltless],
For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or hidden danger].
Withhold not good from those to whom it is due [its rightful owners], when it is in the power of your hand to do it. [Rom 13:7; Gal. 6:10.]
Do not say to your neighbor, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give it, when you have it with you. [Lev. 19:13; Deut. 24:15.]
Do not contrive or dig up or cultivate evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly and confidently beside you.
- Proverbs 3:21-29
Contend not with a man for no reason, when he has done you no wrong. [Rom. 12:18.] For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the careless ease of [self-confident] fools shall destroy them. [Isa. 32:6.] The Proverbs of King Solomon were written, so that all "may increase in learning" and that people may know skill and godly wisdom. Jesus is our Wisdom and when we dwell in the Shelter of the Most High God, we are secure, in confident trust and our spirit is quieted within us. He has given us His Peace and there should be no fear or dread of evil. When we receive God's Word and treasure His Commandments; Then we will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find knowledge of [our omniscient] God. [Prov. 1:7.] He preserves the way of His saints. [1 Sam. 2:9; Ps. 66:8, 9.] Yes, you will understand every good path, Wisdom shall enter your heart, knowledge shall be pleasant to you, discretion shall watch over you and understanding shall keep you. Trust Him. He's got you covered.
13. The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man - upright and in right standing with God - runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong.
- Proverbs 18:10
Jesus is the Name above all names! There is no other Name under Heaven by which we must be saved! He is our refuge and our strength! We are righteous in the eyes of God, because Jesus died on the Cross in our stead and took away our sin and shame. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up, high [above evil]. The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high protecting wall, in his own imagination and conceit. Haughtiness comes before disaster. No amount of money could buy your way into heaven and all the good deeds of a sinful man are worthless. Faith in Jesus alone can save you. Christ in you by the power of the Holy Spirit is the Hope of Glory. God the Father says, "Come boldly before My Throne of Grace." The Lord is our Strong Tower!
14. Behold, he Lord will come with might and His arm will rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him. [Rev. 22:7, 12.]
He will feed His flock like a shepherd, He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom, and will gently lead those that have their young.
- Isaiah 40:10,11
BUT now in spite of the past judgements for Israel's sins] thus says the Lord Who created you, O Jacob, and He Who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you - ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives; I have called you by your name, you are Mine.
When you pass through the waters I will be with you, and through the rivers they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned or scorched, nor shall the flame kindle upon you.
- Isaiah 43:1, 2
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior! Our Creator loved us so much that He sent His Only Begotten Son to die on the Cross and pay the price for our sin. Jesus sets the captives free! He has called you into communion and fellowship with Him. Whether it's water, rivers or fire, He says He will be with us always even unto the end of the age. O you who bring good tidings to Zion, get up to the high mountain; O you who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God! [Acts 10:36; Rom. 10:15.] His arm is not to short to reach you. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and He will lead us to still waters and guide us to greener pasture lands. His reward is with Him!
15. But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgement you shall show to be in the wrong. This [peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord [those in whom the ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced]. This is the righteousness or the vindication which they obtain from Me - this is that which I impart to them as their justification - says the Lord.
- Isaiah 54:17
Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, and about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth more than they?
And which of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure [cubit] to his stature or to the span of his life? [Ps. 39:5-7.]
And why should you be anxious about cloths? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;
Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his magnificence (excellence, dignity and grace) was not arrayed like one of these. [1 Kings 10:4-7.]
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you men with little faith?
Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?
For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek after these things; and your heavenly Father well knows that you need them all.
But seek for (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom, and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right], and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its owm trouble.
- Matthew 6:25-34
In this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world. If God be for us then who can be against us? My God shall supply all of your needs according to His riches in Glory! If we would truely take God at His Word then we would never worry or be anxious about anything. God has not brought us this far that He is not going to bring us all the Way. Are you uneasy about your life? Rest in Him. Are you hungry? Jesus is the Bread of Life! Are you thirsty? WAIT and listen, every one who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy priceless [spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing]. [Rev. 21:6, 7; 22:17.] No one can serve two masters; DO not judge and criticize and condemn others, just put your Faith in Jesus. Trust and obey, for there is no other Way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey. Don't worry! Be happy!
16. But not a hair of your head shall perish. [1 Sam. 14:45.]
- Luke 21:18
But the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan, who has wrought this great deliverance to Israel, die? God forbir! As the Lord lives, there shall not one hair of his head perish, for he has wrought this great deliverance with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.
- 1 Samuel 14:45
King Saul was ready to put his own son to death after Jonathan brought victory to the Nation of Israel. Jesus Himself warned the disciples that they would be hated (despised) by everyone because [they bore] His name and for its sake. We as believers can expect nothing less. It is only by our steadfastness and patient endurance we shall win the true life of our souls. God is Faithful and His Word is True. God has a way of preserving, protecting and guiding His people through the worst of situations. Sometimes through warnings and commands, sometimes through instances of supernatural protection. You have protection in Jesus' Name! All of the previous stories and promises concerning His power to protect are proof of God's steadfast Love for us. Study the Word and you will see that God loves you, cares about your family and is more than willing to protect you! We have given you sixteen clear cut examples and teachings, but the list goes on and on.

[Ps. 39:5-7.]
And why should you be anxious about cloths? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;
