Prophecy - Concerning The Messiah & The Fulfillment
PROPHECY - Concerning The Messiah & The Fulfillment:
1. And I will bless those who bless you, [who confer prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you shall all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed - by you they shall bless themselves. [Gal. 3:8.]
- Genesis 12:3
And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham [My friend and servant] what I am going to do, [Gal. 3:8.]
Since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed through him, and shall bless themselves by him?
- Genesis 18:17,18
The Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven the second time,
And said, I have sworn by Myself, says the Lord, since you have done this, and have not withheld [from Me] or begrudged [giving Me] your son, your only son,
That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens and as the sand on the seashore. And your Seed (Heir) shall possess the gate of His enemies; [Heb. 6:13, 14; 11:12.]
And in your Seed [Christ] shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and [by Him] bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My voice. [Acts 3:25, 26; Gal. 3;16.]
- Genesis 22:15-18
FOOTNOTE:
We have the authority of the Apostle Paul (Gal. 3:8, 16, 18) to restrict this promise to our blessed Lord, Who was the Seed through Whom alone all God's blessings of providence, mercy, grace, and glory, should be conveyed to the nations of the earth. (Adam Clarke's Comentary).
QUOTED IN:
You are the descendants (sons) of the prophets and the heirs of the covenant which God made and gave to your forefathers, saying to Abraham, And in your Seed (Heir), shall all the families of the earth be blessed and benefited. [Gen. 22:18; cf. Gal. 3:16.]
- Acts 3:25
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify - declare righteous, put in right standing with Himself - the Gentiles in consequence of faith, proclaimed the Gospel [foretelling the glad tidings of a Savior long beforehand] to Abraham in the promise, saying, In you shall all the nations [of the earth] be blessed. [Gen. 12:3.]
- Galatians 3:8
COMMENTS:
Both Old and New Covenant speak of the Promise God made to Abraham concerning His blessings being poured out on all nations of the earth. By Faith in the glad tidings of a Savior not only God's chosen people, but the Gentiles as well would be justified, righteous and put in right standing with Him. We are the descendants and heirs of the promised Seed which makes us children of God. Because we are sons God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts. All God's blessings of providence, mercy, grace and glory come through the Seed, Who is the Lord Jesus. Abraham did not withhold his only son from God and in turn God promised to provide Himself a Lamb as a sacrifice. The Son of God is the Lamb of God that took away the sin of the world. In Jesus all nations and families of the earth are blessed. He is the Promise of God, the Seed of Abraham, the Lamb of God, the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One and more. He is Jesus and all prophecy comes together in Him.
2. And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting, solemn pledge to be a God to you and to your posterity after you. [Gal. 3:16.]
But God said, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed; and you shall call his name Isaac (laughter), and I will establish My covenant or solemn pledge with you for an everlasting covenant, and with his posterity after him.
- Genesis 17:7,19
The Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from Heaven the second time,
And said, I have sworn by Myself, says the Lord, since you have done this, and have not withheld [from Me] or begrudged [giving Me] your son, your only son,
That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens and as the sand on the shore.
- Genesis 22:15-18
QUOTED IN:
He has laid hold on His servant Israel (to help him, to espouse his cause), in remembrance of His mercy,
Even as He promised to our forefathers, to Abraham and to his desendants forever. [1 Sam. 2:1-10; Mic. 7:20; Gen. 17:7; 18:18; 22:17.]
This is as He promised by the mouth of His holy prophets from the most ancient times (in the memory of man),
That we should have deliverance and be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who detest and pursue us with hatred;
To make true and show the mercy and compassion and kindness [promised] to our forefathers, and to remember and carry out His holy covenant [to bless, which is the more sacred because made by God Himself].
That covenant He sealed by oath to our forefather Abraham,
To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our foes, might serve Him fearlessly,
In holiness (divine consecration) and righteousness (that is, in accordance with the everlasting principles of right) within His presence all the days of our life.
- Luke 1:54,55,70-75
COMMENTS:
God is the One Who established the covenant between us and Him. It is His doing and it is marvelous in our eyes. All we need to do is accept the promise by Faith. Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. When God told Sarah she was going to have a son in her old age she laughed, but God proved His Word True. Nine months later she would give birth to a son and name him Isaac which means laughter. God's solemn pledge to be our God, our descendants and all future generations is established in His everlasting covenant. The Father sent Jesus into the world as the Promised Seed to bring deliverance, so that we might serve Him fearlessly in holiness and righteousness. When the Spirit of the Lord comes into our hearts Joy enters in and our desire is to be in His presence all the days of our Life. God's desire is to show us His mercy, compassion and kindness. Through Jesus all nations of the earth are blessed and we can bless ourselves also by hearing and obeying His voice. The covenant He sealed by His Word and We are sealed until the day of redemption by His Holy Spirit. Faith in the Son of the Promise is the Answer and Jesus is the Way.
3. The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet from the midst of your brethren, like me [Moses]; to him you shall listen.
I will raise up for them a prophet from among their brethren, like you,and will put My words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
- Deuteronomy 18:15,18
QUOTED IN:
Thus Moses said to the forefathers, the Lord God will raise up for you a prophet from among your brethren as [He raised up] me; Him you shall listen to and undertand by hearing, and heed in all things whatever He tells you.
And it shall be that every soul that does not listen to and understand by hearing and heed that Prophet shall be utterly exterminated from among the people. [Deut, 18:15-19; Lev. 23:29.]
- Acts 3:22,23
COMMENTS:
Jesus was not only raised up from among the brethren according to the Word of Moses, but He was raised up from the grave to be the firstfruits of all who would believe on Him and receive Eternal Life. The Word of God is clear that every soul that does not listen to and heed the Prophet shall be utterly exterminated from among the people. Why should we listen to and understand by hearing, and heed in all things whatever He tells us? Is it better that we listen to soothsayers and diviners? God the Father put His words in Jesus' mouth; and He speaks to us Today all that He commands Him through the Scriptures by the Holy Spirit. Whoever will not hearken to God's Word, God Himself will require it of him. Jesus is more than a prophet. He is The Prophet and all God's prophecies are fulfilled in Him.
4. WHY do the nations assemble with commotion [uproar and confusion of voices], and why do the people imagine (meditate upon and devise) an empty scheme?
The kings of the earth take their places; the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and His Anointed One - the Messiah, the Christ. They say, [Acts 4:25-27.]
Let us break Their bands [of restraint] asunder, and cast Their cords [of control] from us.
-Psalm 2:1-3
QUOTED IN:
And they, when they heard it, lifted their voices together with one united mind to God and said, O Sovereign Lord, You are He Who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything that is in them, [Exod. 20:11; Ps. 146:6.]
Who by the mouth of your forefather David, Your servant and child, said through the Holy Spirit, Why did the heathen [Gentiles] become wanton and insolent and rage, and the people imagine and study and plan vain (fruitless) things - that will not succeed?
The kings of the earth took their stand in array [for attack], and the rulers were assembled and combined together against the Lord and against His Anointed, the Messiah. [Ps. 2:1,2.]
- Acts 4:24-26
COMMENTS:
God is not the author of confusion, but this is the voice of the nations that rage against Him. Imagine there's no heaven? Nice song, but poor Biblical doctrine. For the kings and rulers of the earth to take their places and counsel against God is vanity. It's an empty scheme and total foolishness to think that man could come against God's restraint and control. Jesus, the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One has the victory! People can rage, study and plan all they want, but their efforts shall be fruitless against the Word of God and the Power of His Holy Spirit.
5. I will declare the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, You are My Son; this day [I declare] I have begotten You. [Heb. 1:5; 3:5, 6; 2 Peter 1:17, 18.]
- Psalm 2:7
QUOTED IN:
So now we are bringing you the good news that what God promised to our forefathers,
This He has completely fulfilled to us their children by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second Psalm, You are My Son; today I have begotten You - caused You to arise, to be born, [formally shown You to be the Messiah by the resurrection]. [Ps. 2:7.]
- Acts 13:32,33
For to which of the angels did (God) ever say, You are My Son, today I have begotten You [that is, established You in an official Sonship relation, with kingly dignity]? And again, I will be to Him a Father, and He will be to Me a Son? [Ps. 2:7; 2 Sam. 7:14.]
- Hebrews 1:5
So too Christ, the Messiah, did not exalt Himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed and exalted by Him Who said to Him, You are My Son, today I have begotten You; [Ps. 2:7.]
As He says also in another place, You are a Priest [appointed] forever after the order (rank) of Melchizedek. [Ps. 110:4.]
- Hebrews 5:5,6
COMMENTS:
One does not appropriate for himself the honor [of being high priest], but he is called by God and receives it of Him, just as Aaron did. Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered; And [His completed experience] making Him perfect [in equipment], He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed and obey Him, [Isa. 45:17.] Being designated and recognized and saluted by God as High Priest after the order [with the rank] of Melchizedek. [Ps. 110:4.] He is the sole expression of the glory of God - the Light-being, the out-ray of the divine - and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God's] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high, [Taking a place and rank by which] He Himself became as much superior to angels as the glorious Name (title) which He has inherited is different from and more excellent than theirs. Moreover, when He brings the first-born Son again into the habitable world, He says, Let all the angels of God worship Him. And as to His having raised Him from among the dead, now no more to return to [undergo] putrefaction and dissolution [of the grave], He spoke in this way, I will fulfill and give to you the holy and sure mercies and blessings [that were promised and assured] to David. [Isa. 55:3.] "I have anointed [installed and placed] My King [firmly] on My holy hill of Zion," declares the Lord. God has completely fulfilled His Promise to us by raising Jesus from the dead and this is the Good News (Gospel). With Kingly dignity God has established Jesus as His One and Only Begotten Son. He is higher than the angels, greater than Moses and the prophets. His Name is above all, because He is the Promised Messiah, Christ, Anointed One and the Son of God.
6. Out of the mouth of babes and unweaned infants You have established strength because of Your foes, that You might silence the enemy and the avenger. [Matt. 21:15, 16.]
- Psalm 8:2
QUOTED IN:
And they said to Him, Do You hear what these are saying? And Jesus replied to them, Yes; have you never read, Out of the mouths of children and infants You have made (provided) perfect praise? [Ps. 8:2.]
- Matthew 21:16
COMMENTS:
Have you ever experienced perfect praise? God provides it out of the mouths of His children and infants. The boys and the girls and the youths and the maidens were crying out after Jesus in the porches and courts of the temple proclaiming,"Hasanna (O be propitious, graciously inclined) to the Son of David! The chief priests and the scribes were indignant. O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory on [or above] the heavens. When I view and consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained and established; What is man, that You are mindful of him, the son of [earthborn] man, that You care for him? The Joy of the Lord is our strength, that Jesus might silence the enemy and the avenger. The very works that He did proved that He was the Messiah. He cured the blind and the lame. "This is The Prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee!," the people exclaimed. They knew He was the Son of David and the Son of God. He is worthy of perfect praise!
7. When I view and consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained and established;
What is man, that You are mindful of him, and the son of [earthborn] man, that You care for him?
Yet You have made him but little lower than God [or heavenly beings], and You have crowned him with glory and honor.
You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet. [1 Cor. 15:27; Eph. 1:22, 23; Heb. 2:2-8.]
- Psalm 8:3-6
QUOTED IN:
It has been solemnly and earnestly said in a certain place, What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You graciously and helpfully care for and visit and look after him?
For some little time You have ranked him lower and inferior to the angels, You have crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands, [Ps. 8:4-6.]
For You have put everything in subjection under his feet. Now in putting everything in subjection to man, He left nothing outside [of man's] control. But at present we do not yet see all things subjected to him [man].
- Hebrews 2:6-8
COMMENTS:
For it was not to angels that God subjected the habitable world of the future, of which we are speaking. But we are able to see Jesus, Who was ranked lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because of His having suffered death, in order that by the grace (unmerited favor) of God [to us sinners] He might experience death for every individual person. God came to earth in the form of man to care, visit and look after him. Jesus died in our stead in order to redeem and restore us to our proper place in God. Adam was given dominion over all things that God created. All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatever passes along the paths of the seas. All was lost in the fall of man, but Jesus brought us back into Sonship with our Heavenly Father. Walk in the Spirit and fulfill the will of the Father. O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your Name in all the earth!
8. I have set the Lord continually before me, because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore, my heart is glad, and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety.
For You will not abandon me to Sheol [the place of the dead] , neither will You suffer Your holy one to see corruption. [Acts 13;35.]
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore. [Acts 2:25-28, 31.]
- Psalm 16:8-11
QUOTED IN:
For David says in regard to Him, I saw the Lord constantly before me, for He is at my right hand that I may not be shaken or overthrown or cast down [from my secure and happy state].
Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue exulted exceedingly; moreover my flesh also will rest in hope - will encamp, pitch its tent and dwell on hope [in anticipation of the resurrection].
For You will not abandon My soul, leaving it helpless in Hades [the state of departed spirits], nor let Your Holy One know decay or see destruction [of the body after death].
You have made known to Me the ways of life; You will enrapture Me - diffusing My soul with joy - with and in Your presence. [Ps. 16:8-11.]
Being however a prophet, and knowing that God had sealed to him with an oath that He would set one of his descendants on his throne, [Ps. 132:11.]
He forseeing this, spoke (by foreknowledge) of the resurrection of the Christ, the Messiah, that He was not deserted [in death] and left in Hades [the state of departed spirits], nor did His body know decay or see destruction. [Ps. 16:10.]
- Acts 2:25-28,30,31
COMMENTS:
Brethren, it is permitted me to tell you confidently and with freedom concerning the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. [But] God raised Jesus up, liberating Him from the pangs of death, seeing that it was not possible for Him to continue to be controlled or retained by it. This Jesus God raised up, and of that all we [His disciples] are witnesses. Bless the Lord Who has given us counsel; yes, our heart instructs us in the night seasons. Jesus is risen and He is seated at the right and of God the Father. He's alive and by the Gift of His Holy Spirit, we are alive forevermore in Him
9. For You will not abandon me to Sheol [the place of the dead], neither will You suffer Your holy one to see corruption. [Acts 13:35.]
- Psalm 16:10
QUOTED IN:
For this reason He says also in another Psalm, You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption - to undergo putrefaction and dissolution [of the grave]. [Ps. 16:10.]
- Acts 13:35
Comments:
Incline your ear [submit and consent to the Divine will], and come to Me; hear, and your soul shall revive; and I will make an everlasting covenant or league with you, even the sure mercies - kindness, good will and compassion - promised to David. [ 2 Sam. 7:8-16; Acts 13:34; Heb. 13:20.]
- Isaiah 55:3
Do you hear what I hear? Come to Me all ye who are heavy laden and I will give you rest. It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgement, but with Jesus we get our souls revived, an everlasting covenant, the tender mercies of the Lord, His kindness, compassion and good will towards all who believe on Him. Like David, we may die and be buried, but we have the sure hope of the resurrection and all the promises of God are yea and Amen.
10. MY God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? [Matt. 27:46.]
- Psalm 22:1
FOOTNOTE:
"This is beyond all others "The Psalm of the Cross." It may have been actually repeated by our Lord when hanging on the tree; it would be too bold to say so, but even a casual reader may see that it might have been. It begins with, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" and ends [with the thought], "It is finished." For plaintive expressions uprising from unutterable depths of woe, we may say of this Psalm, "There is none like it."" - Charles Haddon Spurgeon in Treasury of David. Quoted in the Gospels as being fulfilled at Christ's crucifixion.
QUOTED IN:
And about the ninth hour [three o'clock] Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, My God, why have You abadoned Me - leaving Me helpless, forsaking and failing Me in My need? [Ps. 22:1.]
- Matthew 27:46
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which means, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me - deserting Me and leaving Me helpless and abandoned? [Ps. 22:1.]
- Mark 15:34
COMMENTS:
And when the sixth hour had come (about mid-day), there was darkneess over the whole land until the ninth hour (about three o'clock). This was the World's darkest hour. Jesus was upon the Cross dying in our stead and taking on Himself the sins of us all. The Word of God is clear that He became sin for us that we might become the righteouness of God in Him. God the Father turned away from Jesus the Son and the Light of the World was snuffed out until His Glorious Resurrection from the dead. Now He lives in us by the Holy Spirit and the path of the righteous shines ever brighter until the full Light of His Day. Are you feeling forsaken, abandoned, helpless and deserted? God loves you and He sent His One and Only Begotten Son to die for you on the Cross, so that you could have communion and fellowship with Him through the cleansing Blood of Jesus. He is the Way to the Father and in Him we have Peace. Jesus said, "I am going to My God and Your God." He is preparing a place for us and promised never to leave or forsake us. Because we are sons and daughters, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts crying, Abba, Father.
11. They part my clothing among them, and cast lots for my raiment [a long, shirt-like garment, a seemless undertunic]. [John 19:23, 24.]
- Psalm 22:18
QUOTED IN:
And when they had crucified Him, they divided and distributed His garments [among them] by casting lots so that the prophet's saying was fulfilled, They parted My garments among them and over My apparel they cast lots. [Ps. 22:18.]
- Matthew 27:35
And the crucified Him, and divided His garments and distributed them among them, throwing lots for them, to decide who should take each. [Ps. 22:18.]
- Mark 15:24
And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them. [Ps. 22:18.]
- Luke 23:34
Then the soldiers when they had crucified Jesus took His garments and made four parts, one share for each soldier, and also the tunic [the long shirt-like undergarment]. But the tunic was seamless, woven from the top throughout.
So they said to one another, Let us not tear it, but let us cast lots to decide whose it shall be. This was to fulfill the Scripture, They parted My garments amog them, and for My clothing they cast lots. So the soldiers did these things. [Ps 22:18.]
- John 19:23,24
COMMENTS:
Pilate replied, What I have written, I have written. But by the cross of Jesus stood His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the [wife] of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. God was fulfilling what He had written and said of His Son. Mary remembered these things in her heart as she watched her son dying on the Cross. I can count all My bones; [the evildoers] gaze at me. [Luke 23:27,35.] But be not far from Me O Lord; O My help, hasten to aid Me! While the soldiers who crucified Him divided His garments for themselves, Jesus prayed that all too familiar prayer. Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do! Now the people stood by, (calmly and leisurely) watching; but the rulers scoffed and sneered (turned up their noses) at Him, saying, He rescued others (from death), let Him now rescue Himself, if He is the Christ, the Messiah of God, His Chosen One! Little did they know He was dying in their stead. And they (attempted to) give Him wine mingled with myrrh, but He would not take it. Jesus was to take the full punishment for man's sins in order to redeem us back to communion and fellowship with the Father. They offered Him wine mingled with gall to drink, but when He tasted it, He refused to drink it. Then they sat down there and kept watch over Him. For some there, this was just another day in the park. For us, He is the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world. Prophecy fulfilled by Jesus, the Passover Lamb.
12. I will declare Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise You. [John 20:17; Rom. 8:29; Heb. 2:12.]
- Psalm 22:22
QUOTED IN:
For both He Who sanctifies - making men holy - and those who are sanctified all have one [Father]. For this reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
For He says, I will declare Your [the Father's} name to My brethren; in the midst of the (worshipping) congregation I will sing hymns of praise to You. [Ps. 22:22,]
- Hebrews 2:11,12
COMMENTS:
The Lord inhabits the praises of His people! It is our spiritual worship to offer ourselves up to Him as living sacrifices. You who fear - revere and worship - the Lord, praise Him! All you the offspring of Jacob, glorify Him. Fear - revere and worship - Him, all you offspring of Israel. Jesus declared the Father's Name to us, He sanctified us and is not ashamed of us. We should never be ashamed of Him. We are His workmanship created for good works in Christ. We have One Father and should declare His Name to our brethren in the congregation. Sing hymns of praise to Him!
13. Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth and faithfulness. [Luke 23:46; Acts 7:59.]
- Psalm 31:5
QUOTED IN:
And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit! And with these words He expired. [Ps. 31:5.]
- Luke 23:46
COMMENTS:
And while they were stoning Steven, he prayed, Lord Jesus, receive and accept and welcome my spirit!
- Acts 7:59
Steven was a True disciple who lived and died as His Lord. While the sun's light faded - was darkened; and the curtain [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two. [Exod. 26:31-35.] Now the centurion, having seen what had taken place, recognized God and thanked and praised Him, and said, Indeed, without question, this Man was upright - just and innocent! God the Father was their strength and stronghold. They trusted, relied on and confidently leaned on Him. We as well should commit our spirits into His hands. Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of sin and death. He is the Lord God of Truth and faithfulness. He is Truth revealed in the Messianic prophecies fulfilled and He is Faithful!
14. Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted (relied on and was confident), who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. [John 13:18.]
- Psalm 41:9
QUOTED IN:
I am not speaking of and I do not mean all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, He who eats [his] bread with Me has raised up his heel against Me. [Ps. 41:9.]
- John 13:18
Brethren, he said, it was necessary that the Scripture be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the lips of David, about Judas who acted as guide to those who arrested Jesus.
- Acts 1:16
COMMENTS:
Everything Jesus said and did was to fulfill what was written in the Scriptures about Him. I tell you this now before it occurs, so that when it does take place you may be persuaded and believe that I am He - what I say I am, the Christ, the Anointed One, the Messiah. Any one who says that Jesus never said or claimed to be God the Son, hasn't read and studied the Scriptures. When He handed Judas the bread at the Passover meal, He was fulfilling Scripture. Sometimes our most familiar friends lift their heels against us. After all, Jesus was wounded in the house of His friends. Jesus is a friend Who sticks closer than a brother and He'll never leave or forsake us. He has chosen us to help Him fulfill Scripture.
15. Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever; the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
You love righteousness, uprightness and right standing with God, and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows. [Heb. 1:8, 9.]
- Psalm 45:6,7
QUOTED IN:
Referring to the angels He says, (God) Who makes His angels winds, and His ministering servants flames of fire; [Ps. 104:4.]
But as to the Son, He says to Him, Your throne, O God, is forever and ever (to the ages of the ages), and the scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of absolute righteousness - of justice and straightforwardness.
You have loved righteousness - You have delighted in integrity, virtue and uprightness in purpose, thought and action - and You have hated lawlessness (injustice and iniquity), Therefore God, [even] Your God (Godhead), has anointed You with the oil of exultant joy and gladness above and beyond Your companions. [Ps. 45:6, 7.]
- Hebrews 1:7-9
COMMENTS:
Moreover, when He brings the first-born Son again into the habitable world, He says, Let all the angels of God worship Him. And [further], You, Lord, did lay the foundations of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the works of Your hands. Jesus was there in the beginning and He will be there to the end. He is the First and the Last. He is One of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. In these Scriptures we have God the Father anointing God the Son with God the Spirit. We are His ministering servants and the flames of the Holy Spirit fire are to be burning brightly within us. God has anointed you with the Spirit oil of exultant Joy and gladness. Jesus is our righteousness! Hate evil and Love that which is Good. Let your Light so shine!
16. You have ascended on high. You have led away captive a train of vanquished foes; You have received gifts of men, yes, of the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell there with them. [Eph. 4:8.]
- Psalm 68:18
FOOTNOTE:
David sang of the ark of the covenant, which after a great victory was transferred or brought back to Zion. In this fact he sees the principle of the history of the kingdom of God, appearing in widening circles and nobler manner. The fact is to him a type of the method and course of the Messiah's kingdom. So the Apostle Paul (in Eph. 4:8) is perfectly justified in finding the psalmist's eye directed toward Christ, and so interpreting it. The "on high" in the Psalm is first of all Mount Zion, but this is a type of Heaven, as Paul makes clear. (Lange's Commentary.)
QUOTED IN:
Therefore it is said, When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive - He led a train of vanqushed foes - and He bestowed gifts on men. [Ps. 68:18.]
[But He ascended?] Now what can this, He ascended, mean but that He had previously descended from the height of heaven into [the depth], the lower parts of the earth?
He Who descended is the [very] same as He Who also has ascended high above all the heavens, that He [His presence] might fill all things - the whole universe, from the lowest to the highest.
- Ephesians 4:8-10
FOOTNOTE:
"He conquered those who had conquered us; such as sin, the devil and death." - Matthew Henry.
COMMENTS:
Yet grace (God's unmerited favor) was given to each of us individually - not indiscriminately, but in different ways - in proportion to the measure of Christ's [rich and bounteous] gift. And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us,] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. Jesus came from heaven to earth to conquer sin, the devil and death. Aint no mountain high enough, aint no valley low enough, aint no river wide enough that can keep Him away from you. Nothing can seperate us from the Love of God the Father towards us in Christ by the Holy Spirit. Blessed be the Lord, Who bears our burdens and carries us day by day, even the God Who is our salvation! Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
17. The gave me also gall (poisonous and bitter) for my food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar [a sour wine] to drink. [Matt. 27:34, 48.]
- Psalm 69:21
QUOTED IN:
And one of them immediately ran and took a sponge, soaked it with vinegar [a sour wine], and put it on a reed-staff and was about to give it to Him to drink. [Ps. 69:21.]
- Matthew 27:48
And one man ran, and, filling a sponge with vinegar [a mixture of sour wine and water], put it on a staff made of a [bamboo-like] reed, and gave it to Him to drink, saying, Hold off! Let us see whether Elijah [does] come to take Him down. [Ps 69:21.]
- Mark 15:36
The soldiers also ridiculed and made sport of Him, coming up and offering Him vinegar [a sour wine mixed with water], [Ps. 69:21.]
And saying, If you are the King of the Jews, save (rescue) Yourself (from death).
- Luke 23:36,37
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished (ended), said in fulfillment of the Scripture, I thirst. [Ps. 69:21.]
A vessel (bowl) full of vinegar (a sour wine) was placed there. So they put a sponge soaked in the vinegar on [a stalk, reed of] hyssop and held it to [His] mouth.
- John 19:28,29
COMMENTS:
When Jesus had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished! and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. Jesus tasted death for all, so that all might have Eternal Life through His Resurrection. Could you drink the cup He drank? Thank God, we don't have to. He was not only the King of the Jews, but He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies in the Word of God. Knowing His mission on earth was completed, He could exclaim in a loud voice, "It is finished!"
18. Let their habitation and their encampment be a desolation, let no one dwell in their tents. [Matt. 23:38; Acts 1:20.]
- Psalm 69:25
Let his days be few, and let another take his office and charge. [Acts 1:20.]
- Psalm 109:8
QUOTED IN:
For in the book of Psalms it is written, Let his place of residence become deserted and gloomy, and let there be no one to live in it; and [again], Let another take his position or overseership. [Ps. 69:25; 109:8.]
- Acts 1:20
COMMENTS:
Matthias was to take Judas's place after he betrayed Jesus. Judas wound up dead in the Field of Blood and Matthias preached Life in the Mission Field. He was counted with the eleven apostles (special messengers). Not only do these Psalms speak of Judas the person, but they speak to Israel the Nation. Behold, your house is forsaken and desolate - abandoned and left destitute [of God's help]. [1 Kings 9:7; Jer.22:5.] Then will I cut off Israel from the land I have given them; and this house I have hallowed for My name [renown] I will cast from My sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. But if you will not hear these words, I swear by Myself, says the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation. The Temple of the Lord was totally destroyed in 70 AD. Jesus declared, "You will not see Me again until you say, Blessed - magnified in worship, adored and exalted - be He Who comes in the name of the Lord! [Ps. 118:26.]
19. For He is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today if you will hear His voice, [Heb. 3:7-11.]
Harden not your heart, as at Meribah, and as at Massah in the day of the temptation in the wilderness; [Exod. 17:17; Num. 20:1-13; Deut. 6:16.]
When your fathers tried My patience and tested Me, proved Me and saw My work [of judgement].
Forty years long was I grieved and disgusted with that generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they do not approve, acknowledge or regard My ways.
Wherefore I swore in My wrath that they should not enter [the land of promise] My rest. [Heb. 4:3-11.]
- Psalm 95:7-11
QUOTED IN:
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as [happened] in the rebellion [of Israel] and their provocation and embitterment [of Me] in the day of testing in the wilderness.
Where your fathers tried [My patience] and tested [My forbearance] and found I stood their test, and they saw My works for forty years.
And so I was provoked (displeased and sorely grieved) with that generation, and said, They always err and are led astray in their hearts, and they have not perceived or recognized My ways and become progressively better and more experimentally and intimately acquainted with them.
Accordingly I swore in My wrath and indignation, They shall not enter into My rest. [Ps. 95:7-11.]
- Hebrews 3:7-11
For we who have believed - who have adhered to and trusted and relied on God - do enter into that rest, in accordance with His declaration that those [who did not believe] should not enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter into My rest; and this He said although [His] works had been completed and prepared [and waiting for all who would believe] from the foundation of the world. [Ps. 95:11.]
And [they forfeited their part in it, for] in this [passage] He said, They shall not enter into My rest. [Ps. 95:11.]
Seeing then that the promise remains over [from past times] for some to enter that rest, and that those who formerly were given the good news about it and the opportunity, failed to appropriate it and did not enter because of disobedience,
Again He sets a definate day, [a new] Today, [and gives another opportunity of securing that rest,] saying through David after so long a time, in the words already quoted, Today, if you would hear His voice, and when you hear it, do not harden your hearts. [Ps. 95:7, 8.]
- Hebrews 4:3,5-7
COMMENTS:
Two choices need to be made here on the part of the reader. #1) Would you hear His voice? #2) Will you harden you heart? Hear O Israel, the Lord your God! Listen to the Word of God and the voice of His Holy Spirit. Pharaoh saw the works of God done through Moses and Aaron, but hardened his heart until eventually God hardened his heart. The Father wishes that none should perish, but that all would come to repentance. He has been waiting patiently from the foundation of the world for those to come to Him who would believe. Jesus said, "Come unto Me all of you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest!" He took the wrath of God upon Himself at the Cross and became sin for us, so that we might be the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus is the promise of God's rest fulfilled and the only Way. Today, hear the voice of the Spirit and enter in.
20. At the beginning You existed and laid the foundation of the earth; the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They shall perish, but You shall remain and endure; yes, all of them shall wear out and become old like a garment. like clothing You shall change them, and they shall be changed and pass away.
But You remain the same, and Your years shall have no end. [Heb. 1:10-12.]
- Psalm 102:25-27
QUOTED IN:
And [further], You, Lord, did lay the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the works of Your hands.
They will perish, but You remain and continue permanently; they will all grow old and wear out like a garment.
Like a mantle [thrown about one's self] You will roll them up, and they will be changed and replaced by others. But you remain the same and Your years will never end nor come to failure. [Ps. 102:25-27.]
- Hebrews 1:10-12
COMMENTS:
Jesus said, "Before Abraham was, I am!" He was there in the beginning of all creation when God said, "Let Us make man in Our Image!" The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus when He says in the Scriptures, "You are a Priest Forever after the order of Melchisedek!" Jesus is God Eternal come to earth in human flesh. He is the First and the Last, the Alpha and the Omega, the Ancient of Days, our Almighty God and Everlasting Father! God never changes. Jesus is the same, Yesterday, Today and Forever. No other foundation is to be laid. He is the Cornerstone which the builders rejected and He is the Capstone. He has gone to prepare a Place for us and He is coming again soon. Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Word shall never pass away!" He never fails! The Letter of Paul to the Colossians says, Jesus existed before all things and in Him all things consist - cohere, are held together. [Prov. 8:22-31.]

Verse of the Day
Turn to me and be saved, all who live at the ends of the earth, because I am God, and there is no other.
Isaiah 45:22
- Genesis 22:15-18
QUOTED IN:
He has laid hold on His servant Israel (to help him, to espouse his cause), in remembrance of His mercy,
Even as He promised to our forefathers, to Abraham and to his desendants forever. [1 Sam. 2:1-10; Mic. 7:20; Gen. 17:7; 18:18; 22:17.]
This is as He promised by the mouth of His holy prophets from the most ancient times (in the memory of man),
That we should have deliverance and be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who detest and pursue us with hatred;
7. When I view and consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained and established;
